Just finished reading . . . Kitty & the Dead Man’s Hand and Bound to Please

I can not believe that I was cold last week, and my little AccuWeather widget says it was 104°F in my hometown yesterday! Blech! I want spring back, please.

Over the last week, I finished 4 books. Cast in Fury by Michelle Sagara was my April TBR Challenge Book, and the review can be found here. I’m doing a buddy review over at Nath’s Books, Books and more Books for Turn Coat by Jim Butcher, and it will be posted soon!

Below, are mini-reviews of the other 2 books I read.

Kitty and the Dead Man’s Hand (Kitty Norville series, book 5) by Carrie Vaughn

Between books, I forget how much I really enjoy reading this series!

Here’s the book description:

HONEYMOON IN VEGAS?

Already the alpha pair of Denver’s werewolf pack, Kitty and Ben now plan to tie the knot human-style by eloping to Vegas. Kitty is looking forward to sipping fru-fru drinks by the pool and doing her popular radio show on live TV, but her hotel is stocked with werewolf-hating bounty hunters.

Elsewhere on the Strip an old-school magician might be wielding the real thing; the vampire community is harboring a dark secret; and the irresistible star of a suspicious animal act is determined to seduce Kitty. Sin City has never been so wild, and this werewolf has never had to fight harder to save not only her wedding, but her very life.

Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand by Carrie Vaughn
Kitty and Ben go to Vegas to get married. While they’re there, they run afoul of some bounty hunters from Ben’s past, and a troupe of lycanthropic stage performers. The pacing is great, and I really love where Carrie Vaughn is taking this series. Can’t wait to read Kitty Raises Hell, which was released in February.

Bound to Please (Harlequin Blaze Historicals) by Hope Tarr

Tracy from Tracy’s Place was so sweet to send this to me!

Here’s the book description:

He’s not going to take this treatment lying down. At least, not for long . . .

Fifteenth-century Scotland is a tough place to be a woman in charge. Brianna MacLeod, new laird of her clan, needs a child to establish her position. And the best way to do that is to demand the sexual services of her sworn — and very sexy — enemy!

Ewan Fraser never foresaw being kidnapped, tied up and expected to perform stud service. Yet being bound for the delicious Brianna’s pleasure isn’t all bad. In fact, the more time he spends in her bed, the more he’s determined she’ll be the one who ends up enslaved . . .

Bound to Please by Hope Tarr
This was a quick, satisfying read. Brianna and Ewan meet when they are teens, and have never gotten over their immediate connection. There was just enough clan intrigue to be interesting, but not to take away from their story. Their scenes together were steamy and enjoyable!I don’t read many category romances anymore, but I’ll definitely read more if Harlequin continues to put out historicals like this one.

There have been two historical Blazes so far (the Hope Tarr and The Concubine by Jade Lee) and I’ve liked both of them. Quick, fun, and sexy reads. Just set in historical locales, as opposed to the lines usual contemporary settings 😉

I’ve enjoyed Hope Tarr’s short books more than the full-length one I read. This one sounds tasty. 🙂

Wendy: I haven’t read Jade Lee before, but I’ve heard good things about her dragon series. I’m usually more into the longer books, but this really hit the spot last week. Will definitely ck out more!

sula: OK, the first love scene? Mmm-mmm… 😛

Mame: Thanks! I try to put these quickie reviews for all the books I read on my read books page. 🙂

Oh I’m so glad you liked Bound to Please. It was a cute one. For some reason I love the “fell in love when we were kids and then were separated” themes…even if they don’t get together right away.

    I’m with Mame, I really like these….snippet reviews 🙂

Hmmm, at some point I plan to re-start the Kitty series. I was enjoying the first one and then I wasn’t 😦 So I put it down…I do want to read it at some point!

Tracy: Thanks again for the loan! That is a good plot theme. 🙂

orannia: Thanks! I’m so glad you enjoy them. It’s good to know: sometimes I feel like I’m giving the book short shrift, but I guess it’s better than not reviewing them at all.
Kitty is worth sticking with. I read some complaints about her being too passive or “wimpy” in the first book, but I think it was more a thing of the book (and ultimately, the series) being about Kitty’s growth. I love to see how she changes in book 1, and continues to change thru the series.

I missed this review. Glad you liked it. I also liked the story. I read it a few months back after Amy said she thought I’d like it.

When I asked Tracy what sort of romances she liked to read, I almost got worried. I have sooo many England/regency based historicals, but this one managed to peek it’s head out from under the massive mountain of “read” books.

    Have great weekend!!

Barbara: It was a great break from regency historicals. I love them, but it’s nice to read something different once in a while. BtP is really making the rounds, isn’t it? 🙂

Hope you have a great one, too!
